This photograph was taken in Barrhead, of the welcome sign on the outskirts. The basis of the coat of arms is the cross of St. Andrew (a white saltire on a blue background), referring to the Scottish heritage of the inhabitants (the town was, of course, named after the Scottish town), with an Alberta wild rose in the centre. The saltire is cantoned by a moose-head (representing wildlife), wheat (representing agriculture), pine trees (representing the forests around Barrhead), and a thunderstorm, with water in base. The supporters are a hog (representing agriculture again, although I've seen another version where the hog was replaced with a wolf- I'm not sure if this was a variation or simply a bad drawing) and a blue heron, a bird which is surprisingly common in the wetlands of the area. Both county and town appear to use the same emblem.
