This is the full version of the Johnson branch of my family tree, or at least as full as I can get it.

I've pruned off anyone who is still alive.

The first person we know we are related to is James Douglas "Sourdough" Johnson, born in 1861 (November) in Illinois. According to one source, his father was born in Pennsylvania, and his mother was born in Vermont. He had blue eyes and red hair. In 1884, he married Sarah Ann Pointer (born in Feb. 1864 in Iowa- both her parents were born in Ohio). (At least, we're fairly sure that's her name. Her youngest child's birth certificate says her maiden name was Pointer, and Sourdough's will refers to her as "Sarah Ann Johnson". However, numerous other sources (mainly from her children and grandchildren) claim her middle name was Mabel, or that her maiden name was Baker or Curtis. We can safely assume that she (and her husband) knew better than her kids.)

We don't know where they met, or married, but we can follow the trail of children:
Mabel Clare (North Platte, Nebraska, Sept. 1885-1917, married Nathaniel Roy, then Emmett Stanley)
Harry R. (North Platte, Nebraska, June 1887-1965)
Wilmot (North Platte, Nebraska, Oct 1888-1963, married Jerome Durfy)
Stella (North Platte, Nebraska, March 1890-1961, married William Lewis)
Emma (Nebraska, Nov 1891-1953, married Paul Schneider)
Ruben (Salem, Oregon, March 1892-?)
James (Oregon, Oct 1894-1967, married Hazel ?)
Bryan William (Willamette Valley, Ore., Sept 1896-1962, married Lenore Krueger)
John (California or Wyoming, Sept 1899-1955, married someone who is still alive)
Dorothy (Basin, Wyoming, Sept 29, 1902-March 17, 1949, married Charles E. McEachern on Dec. 22, 1923)
Liza (Basin, Wyoming, Dec 1905-1967, slightly brain-damaged during a difficult birth)
Lizzia (Basin, Wyoming, Dec 1905-1919)
Herschel (Basin, Wyoming, 1908-1983, married Celine Poulin)
Nellie M. (Bottrell, Alberta, Oct 1911-1988, married Reinhold Kostrosky)

As you can see, they did quite a bit of wandering in their time, living and homesteading in four American states and one Canadian province. There may have been other children who did not survive infancy, for Wilmot always gave two pieces of advice to her grandchildren- never have 21 children because that's far too many, and never have twins because they always die too quickly.

According to an ancestral file found in Salt Lake City by a relative, the 1880 Census for Pleasant Home, Polk Co., Nebraska, contains the family:
Oliver S. Johnson (Farmer, Age 63, born in NY, both parents born NY)
Anna E. Johnson (Age 50, born in NY, both parents born NY)
Hattie Johnson (Age 21, born Illinois)
James D. Johnson (Age 18, born Illinois)
Hershil V. Johnson (Age 16, born Illinois).

The same file gives Sarah's family in Red Rock, Marion Co., Iowa:
John Roush (Age 79, born in Virginia, parents born in Virginia)
Rebecca Roush (Age 77, born in Virginia, both parents born in Virginia)
Sarah Pointer (Grandaughter, Age 14, born in Iowa, both parents born Ohio)

This ancestral file gives a vast wealth of information, which I cannot possibly re-type here (first, there's a copyright on it; second, I don't know how much of it is actually correct; third, it's -so- much easier to give links to various pages which have forms of it already typed up). Short form:
Sarah's parents were Noah Pointer (b 1827, Ohio; married Feb 1855, Highland Ohio) and Hannah Rausch (b 1832, Highland Co., Ohio, daughter of the aforementioned grandparents).
John Rausch was born March 3, 1801 in Highland Co., Ohio, and was supposedly the son of John Roush (the files at these sites agree with what is in the file we obtained, except for the birth of John).

Rebecca was born June 11, 1803 to Philip Roads (23 Jan 1772 - 3 Jul 1858) and Mary Magdalene Wendel (2 Dec 1774 - 10 Mar 1853, Ohio), who was the daughter of John Wendel (b 1740). John Wendel was the son of Christopher Wendel and Catherine Brumbach, who was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Fischbach (although this site claims she married John Spilman; the ancestors given are the same; the children are completely different, obviously) and a descendant of Jost Bromback (there are 2 generations between Jost and Catharine which are not covered by this link).
