This is the full version of the Stolte branch of my family tree, or at least as full as I can get it.

I've pruned off anyone who is still alive.

The first Stolte we know of is Jan Stolte, appointed as the first schoolmaster in Nieuwleusen in 1703. Unfortunately, we're not quite sure when or where he was born. He was presumably born in Zwolle, but there are record for only two Jan Stoltes born in the proper time frame; one in March of 1659 and one in Sept of 1686. The one seems to old to still be having kids in 1724, and the other too young to become a schoolmaster. He married Jennigje Jans (from Raalte) on April 25, 1707. They had many kids:
Geertruid, 1707 or 1708)
Bertha (1709)
Jan (1711)
Willem (1713)
Anthony (1715- he succeeded his father as the schoolmaster, and also acted as church janitor. He was considered a rabble-rouser by the "Landrost" van Salland for encouraging people to vote for a new minister even if they didn't own a farm.)
Geertruid (1717, presumably the first Geertruid didn't live)
Jennigje (1718)
Bartheld (May 7 1719-1761)
Johanna and Maritje (1721, twins)
Elsje (1723)
Gijsbort (1724).

Bartheld was a master carpenter, and married Janna Gerrits (see bottom of the page) on Oct 8 1746. They also had many children:
Jantje (1747)
Geertruid (1749)
Jan (1750-1824)
Gerrit (1753, became a schoolmaster in Zwolle)
Berend (1755-April 3 1831)
Willem (1759), and
Willem (1761).

Berend seems to have been less fortunate than his forefathers, as he outlived at least three wives. His first wife, Femmigje Klaas, married him in March of 1786 and died in 1788, leaving him a son, Klaas (1788-1809). Since men, in those days, were not expected to take care of infants, he married Aaltje Arends Vuyk (presumably the daughter of Arend Vuyk) in October of 1788. Together they had:
Arend Stolte (Mar 9 1792 - Sept 25 1842, he became a carpenter like his grandfather)
Bartheld (1794-1795)
Bartheld 1796-1848)
Willem (1800-1809)
Willem (1809 only) and
Jan (b 1805).

When Aaltje died in 1809 (along with three kids- that must have been the worst year of his life), he married Wijmondje (Wiegertje) Hendriks (1784-1818). They had two sons- Klaas (b 1810) and another Willem (1811-1812). In November of 1823, he married his final wife, Stijntje Hendriks Witten (b 1791 to Hendrik WITTEN and Aaltje BERENDS, only 36 years younger than him, and one year older than his oldest surviving child). She was presumably a widow, as she had a child (Jan Witten) that had been born in May of that year, and their second was the final Willem (1825-1893).

Arend Stolte, Berend's oldest long-lived son, married Aaltje Klaasen van Spijker (Oct 17 1793-Sept 26 1827) on July 13 1815. They had five sons:
Willem (1815-1816)
Willem (1817-1818)
Willem (1819-1862)
Klaas (Sept 29 1820-Nov 21 1877)
Arend (b 1824, farmed briefly with Klaas, then became a baker in Nieuwleusen).
After Aaltje died, Arend married Hendrikje Vossebelt (March 19 1809-Jan 18 1886). Their children were:
Gerrit (1883-1916), Berend (1835-1840), Aaltje (1840-1885), and Hendrikje (1843-1924).

Klaas Stolte married Willemina Jansen Pater (Nov 10, 1822-June 23, 1852) on March 4 1848, the same year that he and his brother Arend bought 14 hectares of land in Ooster Hulst (I believe this is an area of, or near, Nieuwleusen) in an auction of the estate of Johanna Maria Magdalena Samberg. They had two daughters- Aaltje (1848-1867) and Geesje (1851-1888). Geesje married Gerrit Vonder and had a son named Hendrik- all three of them died of tuberculosis. Klaas remarried in 1855, marrying Geertje Brinkman (Feb 15 1827-1911) and having seven kids:
Willemina (1855-1864)
Steine (1858-1941, married Arend Hekman- they lived right beside Willem, but Arend and Willem could not get along)
Arend (Jan 5 1860-Nov 14 1917)
Arend-Jan (1863-1885)
Willem (1866-1935, married Aaltje Visscher, daughter of Klaas Visscher, and had seven sons and one daughter. One of his sons, Arend Jan, wrote a family history from which most of this information is drawn.)
Jan (1869-1918, trained to be a nurse, married Niesje Roeberson and had three daughters. They tried a grocery store in Dedemsvaart, farming by Withaar Bridge, and a bakery in Ooster Hulst. He, his son, and his eldest daughter died of TB; his wife and remaining daughters moved to Nijverdal)
Hendrik (1871-1875).

Arend Stolte, unfortunately, carried on the family tradition of becoming a widower- his first two wives died of tuberculosis. His third wife survived him, and he died of kidney failure in November of 1917. His first wife, Jentje Nijhuis (1866-1889, married in 1886) had only one child- Klaas (1887-1969) who, at the age of three, burned down the house that Arend and Klaas had built in 1848. Arend married his second wife, Annigje Brinkman (1873-1902) in 1896, and had two daughters: Steine (1897-1987) and Geertje (1901-1902). Jantje Heetebrij (Dec 14 1879-Aug 14 1956), became Arend's third wife on Feb 26 1904. Together, they had:
Lubbert (1905-1933, died of kidney failure)
Geert (b 1907, went to Canada in 1926, returned to Ommen in 1930)
Herman (1906-Oct 10 1999, married Aaltje Meyerink and became my grandfather)
Arend Jan (1911-1990)
Geertje (married Jan Pool and is still alive)
Harmptje (Mar 7-8, 1916).

According to Arend-Jan Stolte (translated by Arend Stolte of Edmonton), "Arend was very anxious to get work done; when they had worked hard together all day, hauling hay from Lichtmis, my father [Arend's brother Willem] had had enough but Arend would grumble, "Now we still have to this and that". He was never satisfied. He also sais (sic) quite often, "Let us go to America. Here we just putter along this poor sandy gound (sic) but over there lies the loam as summerfallow for the taking."...Except for the oldest son Klaas [and Lubbert, who died at 27], all his descendants emigrated to Canada." Jantje and some of her children came to Canada in 1947 (Geert may have returned earlier, Herman came in 1951), although some Stoltes later moved to the states.

Jantje Heetebrij was born on a farm near Nieuwleusen, in the townhip of Staphorst. Her parents were Lubbert Heetebrij (1842-1935) and Harmpje Drok (1843-1917). She had two sisters (Johanna and Annigje, who later bacome Annigje Kragt) and one brother (Joachim). She worked as a kitchen maid to Baron van Dedem, who had a mansion on the Dedemsvaart, from 1883 to 1888. She refused to marry a hired farmhand (since she was a farmer's daughter), but none of the farmer's sons would marry her (since she was a hired maid), thus she stayed single until she was 25, at which point she married Arend. She was a very good farmer, and her sons often cooked supper and did household chores so that she could get the farming done properly. After being a widow for 6 years, she married Peter Visscher, who is said to have been more interested in her farm than her. They later separated, and she moved to Canada with her children. She is remembered (although not by me) as a very strict and stern Opoe and as a woman who worked hard all her life.

According to a distant relative (Arend van Holten), Janna Gerrits' family is as follows:
Jan HERMS (born before 1644, died na 1676) and Jantien HERMS (born before 1646, died na 1676) had:

Gerrit JANS, christened (nd) on 20-02-1670 in Nieuwleusen
Gerrit JANS, christened (nd) on 10-01-1675 in Nieuwleusen, died na 1724.

Gerrit JANS married at the age of 29 on 21-04-1704 in Nieuwleusen to Jennigjen (Jenne) BERENDS, 20 years old, christened (nd) on 30-12-1683 in Nieuwleusen, died na 1725 in Nieuwleusen, daughter of Berend HENDRIKS and Engbertje HENDRIKS. From this marriage:
Engbertjen GERRITS, christened (nd) on 13-04-1710 in Nieuwleusen.

After the death of her husband, Bartheld Stolte, Janna married Hendrik Everts van HOLTEN in 1763.
