The City of Portage La Prairie, Man.

The two wavy blue lines represent the Assiniboine River, and the two garbs in a field of green represent the agriculture of the area. This coat of arms is beautifully simple, and I apologize for the distortion in the wings of the Canada goose in the crest. Portage La Prairie was once the capital of the Republic of Manitoba, which ended (as all NFB watchers know) with President Spence's historic words "For God's sake, man, don't shoot! I've got a wife and children!"

The arms were designed by Donald William Rae, OC, KStJ, CD, MD, FRFP (1931-1998), a long-time resident of Portage la Prairie, and one of the leaders of the Heraldry Society of Canada.
